A bit about us and this blog ...

Hello and welcome to our Little House on the Hill blog ... we're Ralph & Karen, here-in known as Build-it BlokeĀ and Energy Nerd. We live in a house built in the 1920's on a 718m2 (about a fifth of an acre) residential block in East Albury, New South Wales, Australia.

We're into Do-It-Yourself (DIY) solutions, appropriate technologies, permaculture and a healthy dose of trial and error. So our blog is an eclectic mix of tales about stuff happening at our place, people and events that inspire us, and things we learn along the way (also known as mistakes!).

As you'll probably be able to tell, Ralph does all the clever and hard stuff, while Karen writes this blog, keeps records, and hangs out in the garden as much as she can. If you read about Ralph's handiwork at our place, it probably won't come as a surprise to learn that he builds, welds and fixes things for a living. I (Karen) work a variety of jobs relating to sustainability and education as well as being active in several local community groups.

But just to be clear, the blog reflects only our own views. No one pays us to endorse anything or anyone. If we're giving something or someone a pat on the back, it's because we think they deserve it! And while this is sounding like a disclaimer (sorry); if you find something of interest within our site, please don't just take our word for it - do your own research, and by all means consider how you can apply the same principles or ideas, but also ensure anything you choose to undertake appropriately addresses your own situation and capabilities.

We have more tales to tell than we have time to add them, and when things get hectic in other parts of our lives, we tend to go a bit quiet on the blog. Or perhaps that's just my excuse because Ralph can "get stuff done" faster than I can blog about it?

Please feel free to get in touch, leave us a comment and/or subscribe to our updates by email or RSS.

And last, but certainly not least, thanks so much for dropping by!
